K. Dixon Wright started his surety career in 1981 and has worked in both large brokerages and owned a specialty surety agency, North Coast Surety Insurance Services alongside a technology company North Coast Surety Technolgies.
Wells Fargo Insurance Services acquired the NCS insurance agency in 2009, and NCS Technologies became Surety Resource Connection, now SRC Digital Insurance Services, active in developing next generation products and servcies.
Dixon has been working to promote open standards and interoperability as an approach to address one of the surety industries most challenging problems and our communities most pressing need; improving access to surety credit for small and emerging companies. Smaller companies, with limited revenue, have a difficult time getting support from financial service providers when the costs to handle their account are more than the revenue generated. Reduce the administrative costs and smaller companies will be more profitable to have as clients.
Dixon has been working to help identify commonly used data fields to expand the XBRL taxonomy specifically tailored for the Construction Energy and Transportation Industries. The efficiency gained will help small business while helping the largest entities, public and private, meet the demands of emerging technological requirements.
In addition to the community service effort to improve access to surety credit for small business Dixon is also involved in developing data modeling tools and data analytics for performance measurement to better manage contractor default risk and project monitoring of the utility interconnection process. The resulting beta Performance Measurement dashboard was submitted to the Department of Energy’s Apps for Energy Contest – Data by Design, and incorporated in the DOE funded Orange Button.
Dixon’s work with XBRL is to explore how contractor’s financial statements could be provided to surety companies for making underwriting easier and more cost effective so that the smallest companies can have the same interoperability benefits as the large publicly traded ones. The objective is for various trade associations to align and synergize their respective industry specific standards so that XBRL can improve access to surety credit for small and emerging companies so they too can participate in the projects that serve their communities.
Dixon’s also works to expand XBRL to include the building of the nation’s smart grid by incorporating their respective industry standards into the overall framework being developed by the DOE. The objective is to help implement open standards for the building of the nation’s smart grid infrastructure in such a way that small and emerging companies can secure surety credit so they are qualified to participate, and so utility companies and developers can have a larger pool of qualified and bonded local contractors and vendors that are capable of operating under and utilizing project management tools enabled by open standards to manage contractor default risk.
