The University Club of New York
1 West 54th Street
Join us for a briefing on the recent proposal to the DOE for a domestic and international Digital Ecosystem for Infrastructure and the Accelerated Capital Project Formation (ACPF) research initiative at Texas A&M.
We will be discussing how pilot projects will implement next generation digital “Communities” to provide a new level of multi-stakeholder project information, collaboration and communication, project monitoring and risk management for the capital markets, including finance, insurance and surety.
The future is here.

Pilot Projects
- Model Digital Ecosystem for Community Resiliency
- Earth Grid projects in Texas
- Microsoft Data Center
Background
2014
- The DATA Act became the nation's first open data law, creating eXtended Business Reporting Language (XBRL) as an open data standard.
2016
- DOE Orange Button initiative funded the expansion of XBRL to establish data standards that could support the financing, construction and ongoing operations of solar facilities by enabling data interoperability.
2018
- CURT-CII OS2 Initiative to research infrastructure construction practices and emerging technologies to develop next generation digital “Communities” to leverage new technologies for cutting waste and improving operations.
2022
- Both the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) seek to accelerate the implementation of public and private digital construction management systems for building the nation’s infrastructure more efficiently by leveraging data interoperability.
- DOE launched the SolarApp, an efficient national data set for permitting to replace the thousands of inefficient individual permitting processes.
- DOE Issued an RFP for Smart Grid Grants with one of the targeted areas: Enhancing Interoperability and Data Architecture of Systems. The Orange Button collaboration group joined with trade associations Construction Progress Coalition and Financial Data Exchange along with Texas A&M Institute for Sustainable Communities to present a public/private roadmap for Enhancing Interoperability and Data Architecture of Systems for all market sectors that are stakeholders on infrastructure projects.
2023
- Texas A&M Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) launched the Accelerated Capital Project Formation (ACPF) research initiative to leverage emerging technologies like smart contracts and blockchain to create digital ecosystems as “Communities” that can reduce the estimated 40% waste in construction by improving efficiency, transparency and risk management.
